Discussion of La Salle University's Admissions Standards:

Located about four miles north of Temple University in North Philadelphia, La Salle University is a moderately selective Catholic university. Roughly one out of every four applicants will not be admitted. The admissions bar, however, is not overly high, and most hard working high school students with decent grades should be able to get in. The blue and green data points in the graph above represent students who were admitted to La Salle. The great majority of admitted students had a high school GPA of a B- (2.7) or higher, a combined SAT score (RW+M) of 900 or higher, and an ACT composite score of 17 or higher. That said, the admission process to La Salle University is holistic, and you'll notice that some applicants got in with scores a little below these numbers, and a few were rejected who seemed to be on target for admission.

Grades and your SAT scores and / or ACT scores will be a significant part of your La Salle University application. Also, La Salle will look not just at your grades, but the rigor of your high school courses. AP, IB, Honors, and Dual Enrollment courses can all help to demonstrate your college readiness to the admissions folks. Non-numerical measures are also part of the La Salle admissions process. Whether you use the Common Application or La Salle's free online application, you'll be asked about your high school extracurricular activities. Your extracurricular involvement helps show that you will be an engaged and contributing member of the campus community. The application will also ask for an application essay. If you use the Common Application, you'll need to respond to one of the five essay prompts. If you use the La Salle application, you have the option of writing about "anything about yourself that you feel is not reflected in this application." Note that the La Salle application has a shorter essay length requirement than the Common Application.

Finally, the university asks for two letters of recommendation. Be sure to ask teachers, counselors or advisors who know you well and can speak to strengths you possess that may not be evident from the rest of your application.

Finally, you have the opportunity to do an optional interview with one of La Salle's alumni. The interview won't affect your application negatively, but it can help the university get to know you better and play a role in merit scholarship awards.
