Discussion of Catholic University's Admissions Standards:

Roughly a quarter of applicants to Catholic University will not get in. As you can see in the graph above, admitted students (green and blue dots) tend to have above average grades and standardized test scores. The great majority of successful applicants had unweighted high school GPAs of a B or higher. SAT scores (RW+M) are typically above 1000, and ACT composite scores are typically above 20. A significant percentage of admitted students had grades up in the "A" range. If you don't think your standardized test scores will help your application, don't worry; Catholic University has test-optional admissions.

On the left side of the graph, you'll notice a few red dots (rejected students) and yellow dots (waitlisted students) mixed in with the accepted students. You'll also see that a few students were admitted with grades and/or test scores that were a bit below the norm. This is because admission to Catholic University is not a simple mathematical equation of grades and test scores. The university has a holistic admissions policy and works to evaluate the whole student, not just a student's quantifiable data. Whether you use Catholic University's own application or the Common Application, the admissions officers will be looking for a strong application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities, and glowing letters of recommendation. Also, like most selective colleges and universities, Catholic University will be looking at the rigor of your high school courses, not just your grades. AP, IB and Honors classes can strengthen your application. Finally, you can further improve your chances by doing an optional interview. The university recommends interviews for they will help you learn about the university and help the university better know you. Doing an interview also helps demonstrate your interest in the university.
