Southern Arkansas University, founded in 1911, is located in Magnolia, Arkansas. In the beginning, Southern offered high school courses as well as junior college courses; in 1949, it developed into a 4-year college, granting Baccalaureate degrees as well. The school offers over 70 degrees, with education, nursing, and business among the most popular. It also offers a range of Master's degrees, including education, business, and computer science. Students can apply for the Honors Program, where they can take core courses at the honors level, with the opportunity to take trips throughout the year. On the athletic front, the Southern Arkansas Muleriders are members of the NCAA Division II, within the Great American Conference. Popular sports include basketball, golf, and cross country.
