Dr. Allen Grove is a college admissions expert and English professor with over 25 years of experience. He directs Alfred University's First-Year Experience Program, which helps students make the challenging transition from high school to college. For seven years, Dr. Grove was the Chair of the English Department at Alfred University where he teaches first-year composition and literature courses as well as upper-level seminars ranging from Jane Austen to Publishing Practicum. 

Dr. Grove wrote about college admissions for ThoughtCo from 2008 until 2021. Allen Grove earned his master's and Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania. He received both a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering and a B.S. in literature from MIT, with some coursework at Harvard and Wellesley.
