GPA, SAT and ACT Data for the Ivy League

The eight Ivy League schools are among the most selective colleges in the country. This doesn't mean that you need a 4.0 gpa and 2400 on the SAT to get in (although it doesn't hurt). All the Ivy League schools have holistic admissions, so they are looking for students who will contribute more than good grades and test scores to the campus community. A winning Ivy League application needs to present a strong academic record, meaningful extracurricular activities, glowing letters of recommendation, and a compelling application essay. Your college interview and demonstrated interest may also help, and legacy status can give you an advantage.

When it comes to the empirical part of your application, you will need good grades and test scores to get accepted to an Ivy League school. But how high do those numbers need to be? Check out these GPA and test score graphs for applicants to each of the Ivy League schools: Brown | Columbia | Cornell | Dartmouth | Harvard | Penn | Princeton | Yale

@Shahnun your daughter has a great chance getting accepted to any Ivy League school with those SAT scores but she has to have something that’s going to make her stand out from the others like extracurricular activates.

If you look at the GPA and SAT graphs linked to this blog post, you’ll see that a 2000 SAT score keeps your daughter in contention for admission, but she is at the lower end of the score range for matriculated students at Ivy League schools. She’s going to need great grades, challenging courses, an engaging essay, and stand-out extracurricular activities to go along with that SAT score.

i’d like to apply to ivh league schools this year December. My G.P is not satisfactory so i’m repeating grade12.my major fear is that my high school transcripts will not be good enough. Does anybody know if I can get into harvard with a 3.8 G.P, ACT composite score of 36, SAT 1-2350, a score of 5 on 5 AP tests and 750 on 3 SAT subject tests. Another fear I have is that MY secondary school did not offer any extra-curricular activities( in Nigeria) so I just volunteered at non-profit organisations. What do you think…Do i have a chance of getting in/

will I be able to get into an Ivy League school, if my GPA and SAT score are not that impressive(3.2 and around 2000), but I’ve got a prodigious history of extracurricular activities, victories in academic competitions and a few of my literary works and articles published?

My daughter is currently a junior in high school. She would like to apply to USC and Stanford. She has a 4.0 nw and 4.71 w gpa. I am concerned that she doesn’t have enough community service hours. How much weight does the schools place on that for acceptance?

Hello,

Next year I will be entering high school. I’ve always done well academically (most recent GPA: 4.1,) but I’m nervous about my getting into Yale or another Ivy League school in four years all the same. As my high school courses sheet is due in about a month, I would like to know 1) What chance I have of getting into Yale in the first place, 2) What courses should I take based off my academic ability (honors), 3) Is it a wise investment to look at career/college counseling, 4) What extracurriculars should I look into, and 5) Would it be a good idea to contact some Ivy League schools and ask for their advice (I’ve just been doing a lot of research and don’t know if they’ll tell me the same things I’ve heard everywhere.)

Also, I’ve heard over and over again that having a piece of information that makes you stand out from the rest is a good idea to put in your application. I’ve won many contests and have been published multiple times, but I need something unique. Would you consider writing a book or getting something patented good ideas?

I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to get perfect SATs or any other requirements.

If I do write a book, I plan to do so this summer. Please do not underestimate me; I feel I have potential, but the potential energy will only all be turned to kinetic energy when friction is removed. I know I will need to push myself to get rid of the friction. I think I am ready to do so.

But of course, I hope I can stay on track. Do you have any ideas for what my day should look like? (E.g. Amount of studying each day, etc.)

Thank you for your advice.

Ella

Hi,
I m doing my A levels and i have got good grades in my O levels but i have heard that recently the demand of ivy league is to have minimum five or six subjects in a levels so knowing that the SAT test i have to give i can score pretty well in it,can you please clear me the fact of how much subjects should i take up. I am in not any mood to apply to any local Pakistani university so it would be quite helpful if its told how much subjects to take up in a levels.
