FGCU didn't make our list of top colleges for beach lovers, but that's only because the university's beautiful white sand beach is on a lake, not the ocean. If you love sun, sand and water, Florida Gulf Coast University could be a great choice. It's also a great place for nature lovers -- the large campus includes many ponds and wetlands, and a solar array and environmentally friendly buildings all work towards the school's sustainability efforts.

Professional fields such as business, education, nursing, and criminal justice are all popular at FGCU, and the university has been growing rapidly since it first opened its doors in 1997.

This week the school has been in the headlines for making it into the NCAA Sweet 16 -- it's the first time a #15 seed has ever done so.

To learn more about this young but impressive university in Fort Myers, Florida, explore the campus in this FGCU Photo Tour.
