Yesterday I presented the list of "best buys" among private colleges from the Fiske Guide to Colleges, and today we'll look at the top picks among public colleges and universities. Eighteen of the twenty-one public best buys were from the United States:

All of the schools had a combination of competitive pricing and strong academics. These schools can often cost tens-of-thousands of dollars less than some private institutions with similar academic programs.
