Of course Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Wellesley, Smith, Scripps and Mount Holyoke made my list of top picks. Some of the other selections may be less familiar to prospective students. To see who made the cut, check out the list of the top 12 women's colleges.

The colleges on the list were chosen based on a range of factors such as academic reputation, curricular innovations, student / faculty ratios, first-year retention rates, six-year graduation rates, selectivity, financial aid and student engagement.
