The college admissions process is ugly enough when everything happens without a glitch. A lot of hard work as well a student's sense of self worth goes into every application. So it's hard to imagine the emotional roller coaster students must have experienced when Vassar College accidentally informed dozens of early decision applicants that they had been accepted, just to inform them a few hours later that they had been rejected. I'm sure the mistake was an innocent enough, but it's also cruel.
