Many colleges require an essay as part of the transfer application. For the hundreds of colleges that use the Common Transfer Application, the essay prompt is deceptively simple: "Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve, and attach it to your application before submission." As you write your essay, make sure you are not focusing on one of these bad reasons for transferring.
A strong transfer essay should reveal several things:
- A good reason for transferring
- An academic passion
- Clear academic and professional goals
- A pleasing personality
- A strong writing ability
