With nearly 1,000 college profiles (and growing) on About.com, some schools proved much more popular with readers than others in 2011.

Among private universities, the profiles of the schools below received more visits than any others. Each of these universities has robust graduate and undergraduate programs, strong research facilities, and private funding.

In order of popularity, the 10 most viewed private universities on About.com in 2011 were:

  1. Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
  2. Cornell University (Ithaca, New York)
  3. University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
  4. Stanford University (Stanford, California)
  5. Duke University (Durham, North Carolina)
  6. M.I.T. (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
  7. Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island)
  8. Columbia University (New York, New York
  9. NYU (New York, New York)
  10. Princeton University (Princeton, New Jersey)

The first eight spots on the list are identical to 2010 (see the 2010 list). At the bottom of the list, NYU made an appearance for the first time, and Yale got bumped off the list.
