In order of popularity, the 10 most viewed private universities on About.com in 2011 were:
- Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
- Cornell University (Ithaca, New York)
- University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
- Stanford University (Stanford, California)
- Duke University (Durham, North Carolina)
- M.I.T. (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
- Brown University (Providence, Rhode Island)
- Columbia University (New York, New York

The first eight spots on the list are identical to 2010 (see the 2010 list). At the bottom of the list, NYU made an appearance for the first time, and Yale got bumped off the list.

I wish you would give us the acceptance rate and admission statistics by the individual schools with each university. For example, certain schools at Cornell and NYU are known to be easier to get into than others. The admission statistics can vary widely. I recently read that NYU doesn’t even count the School of Liberal Studies in its past SAT GPA statistics. Similarly, I hear that Cornell’s Hotel School is easier to get into statistically.
What about Duke? The ED application pool went up 23% this year.
