Is middle school too early to be thinking about college? To a large extent, yes. Colleges will not look at grades or activities from before 9th grade. No one -- parents or students -- should be losing sleep over college during those middle school years, and parents shouldn't be placing lots of college pressures on middle school kids.

College is something that should naturally be a topic of conversation at the dinner table starting when the kids are young; however with that said, it should be taken more seriously once students are in high school. Students need to make the most of their current situation while starting to think about the next step as it nears.

The good question is what are your views on the younger kids (elementary and middle school) thinking about college. There are young kids who don’t event think about attending college when they are older. To get kids to take it seriously when they reach high school and colleges are looking at grades then we would need to start them at a younger age. They should be thinking about how serious it is and the benefits so by freshman year they are in the habit of doing there best.
