I recently looked at the Ivy League acceptance rates for the class of 2015, and the numbers are discouragingly low. The country's top liberal arts colleges are seeing similar trends as the number of applicants continues to creep upwards. Amherst College received 8,438 applications from which 1,077 students were accepted.

The Amherst Student also reports that the admitted students had an average ACT composite score of 32, SAT critical reading of 728 and SAT math of 726.
