Affirmative Action and College Admissions

Follow me on:

California made the news back in the 1990s when voters passed Proposition 209, a law that forbids the use of race or sex in the admissions process at public universities. Since the passage of the law, the University of California system has seen a drop in the number of enrolled students from certain racial groups.

As a recent article in the Los Angeles Times reports, civil rights activists are once again going to challenge the proposition in federal court, arguing that it violates equal protections guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. What are your thoughts? Should race be a factor in admissions, or should colleges make their decisions based entirely on test scores and high school records? Vote in the poll below, and discuss the issue in the College Admissions Forum.
