I've met parents who are so concerned about getting their kids into a good college that they start putting pressure on their kids far too early. Remember, a student's grades and extracurricular record do not matter before 9th grade. No one -- student or parent -- should be losing sleep over college during those middle school years.

Hi,
I think that it makes sense to start thinking about college early in the process. My youngest daughter is a freshman in high school and she was able to spend a weekend with my eldest who is a freshman in college. I think it will really help her down the road when the time comes to apply for college. She will have a good idea of what college campus life is all about.
Best,
Bob
Many students these days are taking high school credit courses. They are usually in the math or science disciplines. These courses are credited toward a high school GPA and colleges do look closely at them. I agree that middle sschool shouldn’t sweat the whole “college planning process,” but many are already helping shape their record which will be on display for all to see.
