Founded in 1830, Randolph-Macon is the oldest Methodist college in the country. The college is located about 15 miles North of Richmond in the town of Ashland, Virginia. Washington DC is roughly 90 miles away.
As a private college, Randolph-Macon might scare away students who are worried about cost. The college, however, does extremely well on the financial aid front with 100% of students receiving at least some form of grant aid. After financial aid, applicants may find that the total price tag isn't much different than a large and impersonal public university.

Every week I spotlight a great college that might be off the radar of college applicants. If there's a college you'd like to see featured here, please post your ideas in the College Admissions Forum.
