Sierra Club's Least Green Colleges

Tuesday August 25, 2009
The Sierra Club recently published their 2009 list of "Cool Schools" -- colleges and universities that are taking admirable efforts to limit their impact on the planet and educate students about sustainable practices. The Sierra Club also drew attention to some schools that were doing very little for the planet. At the very bottom of their list of 135 schools were Kansas State University, University of Missouri, and Texas Tech.

The reasons for failing the green test aren't just about pumping carbon into the atmosphere or dumping pollutants into the waterways. The Sierra Club also assessed the efforts schools are taking to measure their impact on the environment and create a curriculum that is earth friendly. Some otherwise excellent colleges received surprisingly low scores: Washington and Lee earned a D-, Davidson also got a D-, and Trinity College got an F.

Will the Sierra Club rankings affect your college choice? Share your thoughts below.
