Purdue University recently announced that they will be requiring four years of high school math for all incoming students beginning in 2011. The change may not come as a huge surprise since Purdue has one of the country's
top engineering programs, and the majority of its accepted students already have four years of math. Still, many comparable schools still require just three years of math, even if four years are recommended. The
press release from Purdue notes that students with the extra year of intensive high school math are 73% more likely to complete their bachelor's degree.
High school math requirements vary measurably from college to college. To see how different schools approach the issue, check out this article on high school preparation in math.
