Last week Loyola College in Maryland announced that they are joining the ranks of selective four-year colleges and universities that have decided to make the SAT and ACT an optional part of the application process. Loyola will require students to submit an extra letter of recommendation or an additional essay if they choose not to submit test scores.

Loyola, like most test-optional colleges, isn't convinced that SAT and ACT scores always provide an accurate measure of a student's ability to succeed in college. Also, they want to make efforts towards "enhancing the geographic, ethnic, and socio-economic diversity of the students who apply and enroll." Be sure to read the full Loyola press release for more information.
