High school juniors (and perhaps ambitious sophomores) should keep track of upcoming SAT and ACT deadlines. The April and May exams can be a good choice for a trial run. You'll get scores back before summer begins, so you'll have plenty of time to assess your performance and, if necessary, build up your skills and retake the exams in the fall.
The late registration deadline for the April 4th ACT is upon us -- March 13th. If you're interested in taking the May 2nd SAT, you have a little more time. Regular registration is open until March 31st.

Allen,
… and once signed up for the SAT (or ACT) students should consider the ‘Xiggi method’ for test prep. This is a test prep method I found described on the College Confidential discussion board. It’s also one of the most popular entries on AdmissionsDirectory.com (voted up by its members): http://www.admissionsdirectory.com/story.php?title=Xiggis_SAT_Prep_Methodology-1
My son used the Xiggi method and scored above 700 on all three sections of the SAT. My view is that it is most beneficial to ’self directed’ students.
