Today's spotlight takes us to the rolling hills of Upstate New York where we find Colgate University, a highly-ranked liberal arts college located in the town of Hamilton. Colgate has many strengths among its 51 majors, a fact that has earned the school a chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Colgate also has an impressive 90% 6-year graduation rate, and roughly 2/3 of students eventually go on to do some form of graduate study.

Colgate is more selective than many of the colleges I spotlight, so applicants will need the whole package -- high grades, strong test scores and interesting experiences outside of the classroom. To learn more about Colgate University, be sure to check out the Colgate University profile and visit the official Colgate website. If you're familiar with Colgate University, please share your impressions in the Colgate University discussion thread in the forum.

Every week I spotlight a great college that might be off the radar of college applicants. If you'd like to recommend a school for a future spotlight, please do so here in the College Admissions forum.
