Located in Jackson, the capital of Mississippi, Millsaps is one of the excellent private liberal arts colleges in the South. With an 11 to 1 student / faculty ratio and a strong emphasis on undergraduate writing, Millsaps has the attentive faculty and meaningful curriculum that have earned it a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and a place in Loren Pope's Colleges That Change Lives.

Private colleges aren't cheap, but don't rule out Millsaps even in these tough economic times. Nearly all Millsaps applicants receive some sort of financial assistance from the college. Other noteworthy features of the school include its affiliation with the Methodist Church, its strong business school, and its interesting study abroad opportunities in the Yucatan peninsula.

If you'd like to learn more about Millsaps College, check out the Millsaps College profile and visit the official Millsaps College website. If you're familiar with Millsaps, please share your thoughts.

Every week I spotlight a great college that might be off the radar of college applicants. If you'd like to recommend a school for a future spotlight, please do so here in the College Admissions forum.

I’ll be checking out Millsaps myself on Monday. I like to visit as many colleges as I can to get a feel for what the faculty, the students, and and campus facilities are like. Should be fun; hope the weather is great!
