Today's college spotlight takes us to Canton, New York, the quiet and snowy town where we find St. Lawrence University. Despite the name "university," St. Lawrence has the feel and personality of a top liberal arts college. The focus is definitely on undergraduates, and with an 11 to 1 student / faculty ratio, students have a lot of interaction with their professors.

Since its founding in 1856, St. Lawrence University has had a progressive curriculum. The school has been coeducational since its founding, and student engagement, sustainability, and study abroad are all important parts the St. Lawrence experience. The St. Lawrence river, located just 15 miles from campus, provides the crew team with a stunning practice location, and sets the stage for SLU's highly regarded Canadian Studies program.

If you'd like to learn more about St. Lawrence University, be sure to explore the campus in this SLU photo tour. Also check out the St. Lawrence admissions profile and visit the official St. Lawrence website. If you're familiar with the St. Lawrence, please share your impressions in the SLU discussion thread in the College Admissions Forum.

Every week I spotlight a great college that might be off the radar of college applicants. If you'd like to recommend a school for a future spotlight, please do so here in the forum.
