Spotlight on Cornell College (not University)

Friday May 23, 2008
King Chapel at Cornell CollegeMost folks have heard of Cornell University, the Ivy League powerhouse in Ithaca, NY. For this week's spotlight, however, I'd like to turn your attention to Cornell College, a selective liberal arts college in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Cornell College is worth a look for several reasons. Founded in 1853, it has a beautiful and historic campus that has been coeducational from the beginning. Its excellent academics make it one of the small percentage of liberal arts colleges with Phi Beta Kappa membership. And perhaps Cornell College's most interesting feature is its one-class-at-a-time curriculum. Students take a single class in focused three-and-a-half week semesters. This allows students and faculty to devote all of their attention to a single course. You can find more information in the Cornell College profile.

These weekly spotlights feature great schools that might not be on people's radar. If you'd like to recommend a school for future spotlights, please post your ideas in the College Admissions Forum. And if you'd like to share your experiences related to Cornell College, you can do that in the forum here.
